Olivier Terrio

When he was a young boy, Olivier and his family were deported from Prince Edward Island to France, where he grew up and became a shoemaker. One day in his shop, Frenchman Henri Peyroux de la Coudreniere asks him to help recruit Acadian colonists for Louisiana. Olivier decides to help, but only reluctantly.

Desperate Acadians in France had already fallen victim to dishonest settlement schemes. Would they trust Olivier and follow him to Louisiana? Should Olivier believe in Peyroux's plan? At the Memorial, meet Olivier in his later years and listen as he looks back on his dealings with Peyroux.

Performed in French by Shirley Savoy (Terrio as an older man), Robert Landreneau (Terrio as a younger man) and Jim Viator (Henri Peyroux de la Coudreniere)

Text by Jolene Adam
